Overview:
Economic cycles are an inevitable part of practice, yet periods of uncertainty can present opportunities for adaptation, innovation and growth. As market conditions tighten, architects and small practice owners are increasingly seeking practical strategies to maintain resilience while positioning themselves for future opportunities.
This session explores how practitioners successfully navigated previous downturns, including recessions and the Global Financial Crisis, and the lessons that remain relevant today. Drawing on the experiences of architects, practice leaders and business coaches, participants will examine the strategies, mindset shifts and business adaptations that enabled practices to survive and, in many cases, emerge stronger.
The session will also investigate contemporary approaches being adopted to respond to current market conditions, including the use of AI and digital tools, strategic collaborations, diversification of services and alternative project delivery opportunities. Through case studies, discussion and practical insights, participants will gain tools to strengthen business resilience, identify new opportunities and build confidence in uncertain times.
Whether you are a sole practitioner, small practice owner or emerging practice leader, this session aims to provide practical guidance, inspiration and a roadmap for navigating economic challenges while planning for the future.
