ArchiTeam calls for urgent action on Victoria's Architects Regulations 2026
Time is running out for parliamentary disallowance before the Victorian State Election
ArchiTeam Cooperative is calling for urgent parliamentary action on the Architects Regulations 2026, following a deliberate and sustained advocacy campaign focused on their impact on small architectural practices.
The Regulations commenced on 25 April 2026, replacing the Architects Regulations 2015. Since then, ArchiTeam has engaged with government representatives and Victorian MPs, advocating for a more proportionate and workable regulatory framework for small practices.
ArchiTeam represents more than 1,000 small and medium architectural practices across Australia, with the majority being sole practitioners and small practices.
The impact of the Regulations extends beyond Victoria. They apply to any Australian architect wishing to practise in Victoria, meaning architects based in other states and territories are also affected.
A deliberate advocacy approach
ArchiTeam has taken a measured approach, engaging with decision-makers, outlining the practical impact of the Regulations and advocating for constructive solutions that recognise the significant difference between small and large practices.
Many ArchiTeam members have also contacted their local MPs and met with elected representatives to explain first-hand how the Regulations are affecting their practices.
“Our approach has been deliberate. We have taken the time to understand the implications, engage with decision-makers and advocate for constructive solutions,” said ArchiTeam CEO Phoebe LaGerche-Wijsman.
“We support appropriate regulation and public protection. What we are seeking is a framework that is proportionate and workable for small practices.”
Time is of the essence
ArchiTeam is now seeking disallowance of the Architects Regulations 2026, but the parliamentary window is rapidly closing.
Victorian Parliament is expected to go into recess in September, with caretaker mode commencing in October ahead of the November State Election.
ArchiTeam is urging architects who have not yet contacted their local MP to do so now — including architects outside Victoria who practise, or wish to practise, in the state.
ArchiTeam is also encouraging architects to sign the ACA petition calling for the proposed abolition of the Architects Registration Board of Victoria (ARBV) to be stopped.

- Ask your MP to support disallowance before Parliament enters caretaker mode.
- Share your experience with ArchiTeam to support ongoing advocacy.
- Sign the ACA petition to stop the abolition of the ARBV.
With the parliamentary window closing, ArchiTeam is urging architects across Australia to make their voices heard now.
